Dark and foreboding, yet at times wistfully serene, "Only Photographs" combines film score with classical theme-and-variation to transform a simple pastoral melody into the basis of an ominous musical landscape.
It was commissioned by the Illuminations Dance Company in New York for their October 2009 production, "Stories and Snapshots", and originally choreographed by Christina Coleman to depict the struggle of a young woman living under political oppression.
This recording features violinist Maria Conti and cellist Allison Seidner.
